Alvaston
Alvaston is a suberb of Derby which lies two miles South of Derby city centre and is situated on the A6.
Before it becoming an inhabited area, the land was covered by swampland and animals.

Transport
Public transport came in the fom of a horse bus service which functioned until 1904 when electric trams became the replacement. Trolley buses were then introduced onto the streets of Alvaston in 1932.
Entertainment
Entertainment came in the form of the Rex cinema, situated on London Road. Opened in 1925, the cinema operated for 41 years until its closure in 1966.
Education
There are two secondary schools in Alvaston, Merrill Community School and Noel-Baker Community School.
