JOHN JAMES 'JIMMY' BAGSHAW was one of the select group of men born in Derbyshire to play association football for England.

He was born in Derby on Christmas Day 1885, at Russell Street, close to the site of the Baseball Ground which was later to become home to Derby County. Jimmy Bagshaw played professional football for Derby County, Notts County, and Watford, and at a lower level for Ilkeston United and Grantham in a career spanning 1906-24. He was a right-half and sometimes centre-half. His Derby County record was 240 appearances and 6 goals 1906/7 to 1919/20.

He made only one appearance for England, against Ireland in 1920 while with Derby County.

He coached Nottingham Forest during World War Two and worked in Nottingham for Raleigh Industries. Jimmy Bagshaw died in Nottingham on 25 August 1966, aged 80.
