Bath Street, Ilkeston - then and now

Bath Street, Ilkeston, pictured above left around 1925, has seen a number of changes over the past 80 years.

The tramlines have gone and the street has been pedestrianised. The beautiful ornate street lamps have also disappeared, as have the King’s Picture House with its domed roof and the church further down the street, on the left. Flat caps, waistcoats and pocket watches were much in evidence.

But, although the shop fronts have changed, the awnings have gone and much of the brickwork has been painted over, many of the buildings are still essentially the same.
