Jump to: navigation, search

The photograph above left was taken just over 50 years ago but what a different half a century makes.

The cottages in Belper Road, Stanley Common, are still essentially the same but time has changed them drastically.

With a lick of paint, double glazing, central heating and the rest, what were probably labourers’ or coalminers’ homes have been turned into up-market bijou cottages.

Only three families had television back in 1955; now most of them subscribe to Sky and the empty street, where the little girl is playing, is now busy with smart cars. Do you recall the street in the 1950s? Add your memories below by clicking the Edit link.
