Bruce was hard taskmaster at the Talk of the Midlands
With it being Bruce Forsyth’s 80th birthday this week (February 2008), I thought readers might be interested in the picture, above.
It is of Bruce with my dad, Bert, and myself backstage at The Talk of the Midlands, in Mill Street, Derby, in the 1970s. My group, the Ron Cooper Band, was resident there at the time.
During the week Bruce was headlining, we used an 18-piece band; hence, my dad on trombone. He came to help out.
Dad used to tour with Hughie Green’s gang show is his early playing days.
It was a great week, even though Bruce was a hard taskmaster and perfectionist. He was a pleasure to work with and his shows were spot-on.
Anyone who came to see him got their money’s worth – with all that jazz and comedy to boot.
Ron Cooper, Drummer and bandleader.
