YASMIN CLARKE - RISING TENNIS STAR
YASMIN CLARKE was born in Derby on 3 March 1990. She began playing tennis at the age of seven and quickly developed her game to become one of Britain's top junior players in her age range.
She is a former pupil of Littleover Secondary School and has been a member of Littleover Tennis Club. She has already won the Derbyshire Ladies Championship at senior level and has consistently won junior events within her age group categories. She has played in the Junior tournament at Wimbledon and has won ITF Junior events in Louisiana and Nottingham.
In 2005 she won the Under-16s Ariel National Doubles Championships with Naomi Cavaday. Yasmin has previously been coached by Ashley Broomhead at the Nottingham High Performance Centre and in 2008 secured a new coach in David Sammell.
The change coincided with renewed success. By then aged 17 and playing on the British Tour Circuit, she topped the British Tour Leaderboard in April 2008 after securing four British Tour trophies within a twelve month period.
Her best local success was in winning both the girls' singles and doubles titles at an International Tennis Federation event at the Nottingham Tennis Centre early in 2008.
Her world ranking at the start of 2008 was 820, and she intends to use the British Tour events as a springboard to competing successfully at professional senior events.
Her declared ambition is to pursue a career as a professional tennis player.
