Dad used to run Derby donkey rides

Jump to: navigation, search

Does anyone remember the pony rides that used to take place in the streets of Derby and surrounding areas?

These ponies were the pride of my father. I have no idea the miles I walked leading these ponies - no health and safety then!

If you could sit on one you could ride it - simple really. I could guarantee a free ice cream if I turned the pony round near the ice cream man who trailed behind us.

The ponies brought the kids out - one pony ride one ice cream = two happy entrepreneurs and one knackered son who walked miles leading the animals.

For some reason I hate walking nowadays.
