Derbyshire Athletics - Your Stories Wanted

(Redirected from Derbyshire Athletics)
Jump to: navigation, search

There is a growing archive of You & Yesterday articles concerning aspects of Derbyshire athletics. Here Peter Seddon takes a gentle jog around the scene and summarises what has been posted so far.

Although 'Derbyshire' and 'athletics' are not subjects which would immediately be twinned together in the mind's eye, the county in fact has a long tradition of athletic success.

Since the forerunner of Derby Athletic Club was formed in 1887, many athletes of note have worn the club colours, among them a number who have competed at the Olympic Games.

Yet in contrast to football and cricket, comparatively little has been written on the history of athletic pursuits in Derbyshire - that is a shame, for there are some great stories out there.

So if you have anything to relate which is linked to 'athletics with a Derbyshire twist', why not create an article and post it on the site.

For an idea of what has been written, here is a list of postings to date. All are either linked to Derbyshire athletics per se or concern those who have competed at any sport in the Olympic Games. To read an article in full just click on its title.
