Ecclesbourne Valley Railway : Idridgehay

Idridgehay

This little village lies some 3 miles south of Wirksworth and is the first of the wayside 'halts', or stations, on the Ecclesbourne Valley Railway as it makes it's way towards Duffield. Pictures taken in the early 1900s which can be seen on the 'PictureThePast' website show platform, station, station master's house, signal box and level-crossing. Writing now in 2007 we can say that the crossing gates, long gone, are to be re-instated. Gone too is the signal box. The house and station building are now in private ownership as dwellings but the platform is in good order having recently been refurbished by the EVRA. Passenger trains are planned to be running on this 3 mile section by October 2007.
