Holbrook Village - then and now
This atmospheric picture, above, was taken in the centre of Holbrook Village at the turn of the last century. The building on the left was a pub - to find out more about it, go to Lost Derbyshire pubs - The Greyhound, Holbrook.
Apart from the lack of traffic, signposts and telephone wires, the picture below shows the scene has changed little over the past century. Even most of the dry-stone garden walls are still in existence.
However the pace of life was obviously slower and much more relaxed in those days, with people standing around chatting and children playing in the street, although it could have been Sunday as the men look as though they are in their Sunday suits.
