Keep fit is not just a modern-day fad. Back in the 1940s, women flocked to join new health and beauty classes in Derby to get in shape. At the time the concept of women keeping fit was virtually unknown. But Beryl Bennett, who led the classes, soon had the women performing energetic exercises to music.
