Paul Millership

Paul Millership, pictured right, was the founder and chairman of Belfield Furnishings, which became Ilkeston's biggest employer with 1,500 workers.

Born in 1948, one of ten children, he left school at 15 to become an apprentice at Beauvale Furnishings. He left the firm but pledged that, one day, he would return as the owner.

He did, launching furnishing company Manor House in 1986 and going on to buy Beauvale before selling both companies in 1998.

In 2002, he launched Belfield Furnishings, and later that year, more than 800 jobs were saved when he bought back Beauvale and Manor House, as well as furnishing company, Tudor House.

Mr Millership, who was known as Butch, lived at Stanton by Dale with his wife Sylvia and son Alex. He died in November 2007 aged 59.

He was the chairman of Ilkeston Town Football Club and helped to save the club when Erewash Borough Council sold its ground in 1992.
