The Queen opens Pride Park in 1997
Pride Park Stadium is home to Derby's football team, Derby County. Located within the Pride Park business park on the outskirts of Derby city centre, it boasts a capacity of 33,597 spectators. The stadium was completed in 1997 and opened by the Queen on July 18th. The first game to be held at Pride Park was a friendly against Sampdoria on August 4th.

Derby's first competetive game was against Wimbledon but the game had to be abandoned after a floodlight failure.

The stadium has hosted concerts by Rod Stewart and the Red Hot Chilli Peppers.
