Repton Road, Willington - then and now
The photograph on the left shows a remarkably traffic-free toll bridge in Repton Road, Willington, back in October 1954.
The only vehicle in sight appears to be parked on the pavement to the right of the central arch of the railway bridge. What would today’s traffic wardens have to say about that?
The 2008 scene above has changed considerably, notably with the appearance of a garage on the right and a zebra crossing in the foreground.
What is also striking is the number of signs that have appeared. A couple of understated warning triangles on the left have been superseded by blue, white and orange signs and a garish black and amber arrangement around the main arch of the bridge.
