Sport has played a prominent part in the lives of Derbyshire folk throughout the ages, exciting people’s passions and bringing out their competitive streak. Like the rest of the country, football and cricket have dominated the county’s sporting scene, from the time that the first Derby County players stepped out onto the hallowed turf of the Baseball Ground and Derbyshire’s cricketers batted their way into the County Championship in 1895.
