Swadlincote High Street - then and now
The old picture of High Street, Swadlincote, is marked in the Derby Evening Telegraph archives as being from 1969 but appears to be at least a decade earlier.
One of the most obvious changes is that the street is now paved and pedestrianised, with bollards and modern street furniture.
In the old picture, High Street still has many of its original shop fronts, complete with canopies to keep out the sun, and must have appeared as it did in the early 1900s. Even the street lamp looks as though it could have been converted from gas.
