Restoration of Derby Arboretum bandstand

I am writing this note in an attempt to try and encourage the restoration of the Arboretum bandstand and to help promote more live music in Derby. In the past when the Arboretum was the place to visit, brass bands were a regular feature in the bandstand. I have also been present during a live pop concert. What a perfect setting it was for this as the audience could sit on the grass banks which rose above the bandstand. The position of the park in Normanton is also an ideal setting to present multicultural music. Other towns and cities are able to present concerts on bandstands. I have performed in the bandstand in the park near Trent Bridge Nottingham and associates of mine have performed recently on the Belper river gardens bandstand. Let the local musicians ‘Strutt’ their stuff! Kip Wilks
