Talk:Gresley family: Forever grateful to Alabaster Bill for inspiring interest in art history and antiques
I used to work in the travellers Joy as a teenager and got to know Harold really well. He once offered me a painting but at the time I was only interested music etc. and declined the offer. How silly was I ?
Long live the Gresleys!
Harold wasn't 'the last of the Gresleys', my Gran is, and she's still going strong at 97. Frank was her Grandfather, Cuth and Harold, her uncles. JS was her Great Grandad. Recently I acquired a portrait of Frank painted by Harold. The former certainly looks like, 'the grand old man.' Harold was clearly a very accomplished painter. Cuth and Harold had a brother, Horace, who was my Great Grandad. A redoubtable figure in his own right, by all accounts! I'd really love to know whether there's a family connection between this Derbyshire family, and Sir Nigel Gresley, the famous locomotive engineer. He was also a Derbyshire man.
