Peter - it would be interesting to know if this bit of the inner ring road was ever built, or whether the Lifeboat was yet another of the old buildings that were needlessly demolished to make way for it. Editor2

Peter replies: As if you couldn't guess the answer - I drove the length of Wilson Street today and found it to be a road of terraced houses just as it always had been, except with a few gaps and areas of open space. Suffice to say there was not an Inner Ring Road in sight. So as you say, another needless demolition job - I have amended the article to cover it. 28 February 2008.
