Talk:Willington Post Office - then and now

Jump to: navigation, search

Perhaps it is an illusion (delusion?) but the old shop seems much 'busier' visually in terms of its window displays and general appearance - just so much more inviting than today's much plainer frontage, undoubtedly modified as a concession to security. One shop seems to say 'come in you are welcome - enjoy life's pleasures' - the other hovers much closer to a subliminal 'keep out' message. Could that be the real reason why so many Post Offices have had to be closed? They simply forgot how to sell......maybe others will disagree. User Peter Seddon 12 February 2008.

Rosa St.John Proprietor Willington PO

It is lovely to see the Willington Post Office. It brings back fond memories of my childhood. My mother was a cousin of Rosa St John the Proprietor of the PO. During the WWII my older brother and sisters were sent to Rosa’s for safety when there was the threat of bombing in Southern England. I also visited the Willington PO as a child and I have fond memories of “Auntie” Rosa, her sons’ (my second cousins) Robert and Keith and also Uncle Twells and Aunt Lilly (my mother’s and Rosa's Aunt and Uncle) I believe they worked in the PO too. Uncle Twells (Ernest) always carried a gold sovereign or two in his pocket. They're all gone now but they have left me with many happy memories!
