Public transport was vital for decades because there were few cars. Hundreds of people relied on buses to get to work and school, to go shopping, to go on holiday, or just to visit friends.

Many Derby residents will recall with fondness the trolleybuses that once operated in the city. Some might even remember the trams that used to trundle through the streets. Both were environmentally-friendly forms of transport which, with the benefit of hindsight, arguably shouldn’t have been phased out.
