WWII: Youngsters line up for street party
|
|
Barry Clarence, of Alvaston, who is pictured front, fourth from the right, believes the photo was taken at celebrations to mark either VE (Victory over Europe) or VJ (Victory over Japan) Day.
He recognises many of the children and some of the adults, but several names escape him. Pat Ackman is centre front in a dark cardigan. Others on the front row are Sheila Clarence in the high chair, Audrey Turner, Peggy Gillingham, Barry, Noel, Madge and June Clarence, Mary and Cynthia Prothuk and Maureen Williams.
Among the lads seated on the back row are Roddy Roberts, Norris Turner, Roy Clarence, Tiny Stockton, Dick Rasin and Bill Dickens.
Standing right at the far end is Mr Roberts, who was a fireman at British Celanese.
Other adults include Mr Slater, Mrs Osborn, Mrs Gillingham, Mrs Murfin, Mr and Mrs Diggles and Mrs Turner.
